They Are Engaged.
BROCKWAY-SIMPSON: The engagement is announced between Marian St. Clair, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. [Walter] St. Clair Brockway, of [12] Mann-street, Cottesloe, and Kenneth Leonard, only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Simpson, of Westmere, Auckland, New Zealand.

[NOTE: There is no record of an ensuing marriage in Western Australia; Marian Brockway married Peter Baker in July 1952].

[ORPHANAGE] FIRE An electric radiator was believed to have caused a fire which destroyed a lounge chair and a valuable monkey skin in the home of Mr. W. St. C. [Walter St Clair] Brockway in [12] Mann-street, Cottesloe, about 11.15 a.m. yesterday. Firemen from the Claremont brigade carried the burning chair out of the house.

[Alfred William Augustus] Peter Baker and Marion Brockway were married at the bride's home in [12] Mann-street, Cottesloe, on Saturday, where her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. [Walter] St. Clair Brockway afterwards gave a small wedding breakfast for relatives and intimate friends. Later, there was a large reception in a marquee on the lawn.


1953

Motor Cycle In Corner Smash
Leonard Robert Bairstow (20), single, of [2] Mann-street, Cottesloe, received concussion yesterday afternoon when his motor cycle collided with a car. The accident occurred at the intersection of Bay-road and Melvista-avenue, Claremont. Mr. Bairstow was admitted to the Royal Perth Hospital.
